The Dark Knight

Description

This one went through a couple iterations before becoming this bad-ass black winged beast.  The body is taken from a old-school credit card swipe machine - the type where you first put down the card, then the carbonless copy form then ran the roller over it to imprint the raised numbers from the card onto the form.

The legs went through three versions themselves before the right pieces revealed themselves.  The arms were once part of a set of windshield wipers from my wife's previous car.  Wings courtesy of formerly high-capacity high-speed server disk drives which had a lot of heat sinks attached.

The first iteration was not black and did not have the light in the chest.  But it kept telling me that it was not finished, that it needed something more to make it complete.  I love those little hand-sized LED flashlights which run on 3 AAA batteries and blast an incredible amount of light.  They can be easily disassembled and the lights extracted for installation into pieces like this.

As for the black, I started with just doing the feet (by hand with a little art brush) and it just went all the way from that.  The paint is glossy and has plenty of brush strokes and unevenness.  Although that is just because I had run out of black spray paint, I think the more irregular coloring works very well.
